Hip Klip

In conjunction with the Take Heart Program for Muskoka-Parry Sound, a number of games were developed for youth groups. These have been printed on cards. Through training sessions, these cards are given to youth club leaders who wish to use these games. The cards have been collated and attached to a carabiner, for easy access by leaders. The games cover the following topics: substance abuse, injury prevention, nutrition, tobacco, physical activity. They are intended specifically for youth ages 10-14. Most of the activities involve physical activity or creative thinking. For more details, contact the RISK program.

P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol Risk-Related Trauma in Youth) Program

The P.A.R.T.Y. Program is a one-day, in-hospital, injury awareness and prevention program for Grade 11 students in Parry Sound. It was developed in 1986 at Sunnybrook Hospital, and adapted to the needs of the Parry Sound community. The objective is to reduce death and injury from alcohol, drug and risk-related crashes and incidents. A program for Grades 7-8 in Muskoka is also underway in Bracebridge. For more information on the original P.A.R.T.Y. program, visit: P.A.R.T.Y. at Sunnybrook and Women's.

Mock Crash

In May 2004, the students from Almaguin High School got a glimpse of what a real crash involving alcohol may look like. It was so real that a number of people driving by the school at the time of the accident called in to make sure their kids were OK!
