Strengthening Families

Strengthening Families Program is a family change program designed to reduce family risk factors and enhance protective factors. It is offered to families in Muskoka-Parry Sound by RISK Project and a number of agencies. The Strengthening Families Program is designed for elementary school aged children (aged 7-11 years) and their families who want to reduce the risks associated with issues such as parent/child conflict, alcohol and drug use, family violence and others. To find out about upcoming programs, contact the RISK Coordinator. Strengthening Families is used worldwide; to get a literature review on this program, visit the University of Utah Program Review.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorders (FASD) Initiatives

Alcohol and pregnancy don't mix as the consequences are irreversible. The RISK program is closely linked with the Prenatal Nutrition program of the Muskoka-Parry Sound Health Unit and provides information and resources to pregnant moms. Together, they recently developed a series of Healthy "Mocktail" recipes and promoted these.

In the fall of 2003, a campaign called "No thanks, I'm having a baby" was done in bars to reach young mothers to be.
