Making the Link

Primary Care Education Project

Is alcohol really good for you? According to the media, the answer would be yes. What does the research really show and how does it impact the health of your patients/clients?

The purpose for this project is to provide information and useable tools to assist health professionals in their client interviews and to help them assess whether clients could benefit from some guidance.

The Objectives for the education project were:

  • To increase professional knowledge regarding the causal links between alcohol and stroke.

  • To increase professional knowledge regarding the causal links between alcohol and cancer.

  • To increase professional knowledge and awareness of current alcohol screening and intervention tools and to provide a forum for discussion and dialogue between stakeholders.

  • To increase awareness of provincial, regional and local experts and services regarding alcohol, stroke and cancer.

We welcome the opportunity to understand the perspectives of physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, public health, social workers, addictions counselors and stroke professionals, who each play a key role in in assessing and treating alcohol risk for cancer and stroke.
